Biotin is an essential vitamin also known as vitamin A. It is involved in various important physiological functions such as fatty acid synthesis, amino acid metabolism and gluconeogenesis. It acts as a cofactor in the o-matic carboxylation of pyruvate and acetyl-CoA. Biotin affects epidermal cell growth and is therefore very beneficial in hair, skin and nail formation and hair, skin and nail regeneration. It acts as a coenzyme for mitochondrial carboxylase in hair follicles and improves collagen formation. Biotin deficiency causes hair loss along with other symptoms such as diathesis and aciduria. Biotin is one of the most widely used medications for any type of hair loss problem.
